Deciding to LOVE Myself...Beginning a Low-Carb Diet

Love is the greatest of all things!

Love conquers all!

Love makes the world go 'round!

Love will keep us together!

Love is a many splendored thing!

Love is all you need!

I love LOVE!

But as I reflected who and what I love, I realized that there was one person who didn't get much consideration or love at all....and that person is me.

I don't love me (which is sad, because I think I'm pretty lovable). But I will admit here friends, that I have been terribly unhappy lately. To the point where I'm wondering if I need medication or counseling or therapy, it's that profound.

Profoundly unhappy.

Life is too short and too beautiful a gift to spend it miserable.

I need a change.

Now, I'm not going to bore you with a long, giant explanation for why I'm experiencing despair and choosing to overhaul and revamp my life; those reasons will unfold as the days, and all I need to do to accomplish this overhaul unfolds (because overhauling a life is no small undertaking, so there will be lots to talk about)!

Just let me say that I am maybe the unhappiest I've ever been. Some of it is external, but only because of my own doing. I firmly believe that no one has the power to make you happy or unhappy...IT'S ALL ON YOU!

But there are some external things, namely my home environment (disorganized, cluttered), for example, that is causing a good deal of unhappiness in my life. One could say that it's probably because I am disorganized and cluttered!

Another reason for my unhappiness, the thing that I am starting off with today is my health. It's time to change my eating and activity level. Not because I want to look good, but because, as I look to the future, I don't want to feel like I do now...and right now, I feel OLD and TIRED and I HURT.

If I feel this way at 41, how will I feel at 61?

Sixty isn't considered "elderly" anymore! I mean, have you seen Christie Brinkley? She's 60 and looks FABULOUS! She is going to be in Sports Illustrated again...AT 60!!! My mind is blown!

Sports Illustrated 2017

I will talk more about the specifics of my health another day, but for today, let's just talk about revamping my eating with a low-carb eating plan. I have arthritis, bursitis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and even had a stroke last year (we'll talk more about that later)! Some of you may condemn a drastic change in eating, but when you've had an experience such as having a stroke, you know drastic is paramount!

I weighed 289.3 pounds this morning (I should also mention that I'm nearly 6' tall...5' 11 3/4" to be exact).

Pics from this week...

Just a few years ago, I had gotten down to 239 on the divorce diet (don't recommend that one).

Me at 250 lbs...much better

I jest, but going through a painful divorce cause me to lose a lot of weight...and I actually felt great! No pain, I had energy, I felt lighter, and I even wanted to exercise! I started hiking and getting outside, it was wonderful!

But when I gained the weight back, not only did I have a stroke, but my gallbladder had to be removed (turning 40 was rough!).

My doctor recommended a low-carb diet, which I've had a lot of success with in the past. I've also read that sugar is a terrible inflammatory, which will help ease the pain of the arthritis and bursitis in my hip joints. Some days it's hard to even walk.

So, there you go...deciding to love myself, step one? Eating a low carb diet!

THIS is what I brought to eat at work.

Boiled eggs and bacon for breakfast, coffee with cream and Splenda, pepperoni slices, diet Coke, flavored water, pork rinds for snacks, and chicken wings with blue cheese dressing for lunch (it was sooo good!).

I know there are a lot of artificial sweeteners in my drinks, which some don't like because they are said to cause cancer. But like I said before, my situation is urgent and I have to weigh my current poor health (stroke) against whether or not a packet of Splenda may or may not cause cancer. I just can't worry about that right now. Maybe sometime down the road, because it is a legitimate concern. But right now, I have to focus on the issues at hand, and the most important thing is using what I have and getting my weight down. I know that there are other sugar substitute alternatives (I do my research people), but I will have to get those later. Right now, I have Splenda, and Splenda is what I'm using. :)

When I got home from work, I ate a cup of sugar-free jello with whipped cream (full fat!), and for dinner I had a simple salad (lettuce, tomato, dressing) because I really wasn't all that hungry. When I've done this diet in the past, that is my norm (to eat very light come dinner time).

As an aside....it feels good to be writing again...to create and to share. I'm glad I have this little nook here on the interwebs to share with you. I hope you will comment and subscribe so we can make this journey together. :)

What I'd Tell Myself if I Were 22

I looked down at my phone today and saw the date...July 25, 2012.

I realized that in 4 months exactly, I will be 38 years old. It seems crazy! I was just explaining to someone the other day that inside I don't feel nearly 40 years old. I feel more like 22 (haha...intentional Taylor Swift reference there).

Have you heard "22" by Taylor Swift? If not, here's the video...

Granted, I wasn't a single girl partying with her friends on the weekends and "falling in love with strangers" when I was 22. But I can identify with the lyric, "happy, free and confused." I had been married nearly a whole year when I turned 22. It was so fun to be out of the house for good, in a new city with my best friend and new husband. We had great times! But we were also feeling around in the dark a lot of the time, just trying to find our way. Everything was so new and yet so terrifying!

Us now...

What would Angie and Bobby in their mid-30's have to say to the two young love birds below?

Me and my honey, so young and in love.
I was probably right at 22 here and he would have been 20.

Listening to that song got me reminiscing. I can't speak for my husband, but I do have a few things I'd like to say to my 22 year old self, 15 years later!

-I'd tell her to forgive herself NOW. 22 year old Angie was carrying around a lot of guilt and shame for mistakes from her past and had a hard time letting it go. I'd tell her that God loves her unconditionally and that the sooner she gets that, the sooner she can move on and live in the freedom Jesus died for her to have.

-I'd tell her that she was not a screw up. 21 year old Angie quit school and left her friends and professors in a pretty shameful way (just a few voice mail messages to some people who really cared about her...they deserved better). I would tell her that she was young, immature and while she knew she was being a coward by just taking the easy way, the truth is, it would have been too painful to look at the disappointment in their eyes, so she chickened out of doing the right thing. I'd tell her that it's okay, to let it go and to do better next time.

-I'd tell her NOT to trade in the paid for car from her parents for a shiny new car with a big ol' car payment (even though it was an awesome car!). That the less bills you have, the better!

-In that same vein, I'd tell her that credit cards were the devil! I'd tell her that she could trust God for what she needed and if she didn't have the cash to pay for something, she didn't really need it (I'd also tell her that student loans follow you around the rest of your life, and to try to pay for classes with cash!).

-I'd tell her to really, really, REALLY treasure her husband and start treating him with respect because he was just 20 years old and really struggling trying to figure it all out and needed that extra boost of confidence from her.

-I'd tell her not to use sex as leverage in her marriage. I'd tell her that those games caused deep feelings of rejection that would take years to heal.

-I'd tell her not to scramble, panic or try to figure it all out. She was always in a panic trying to get things done and trying to figure out the future. But there was no need for that. I would tell her to start learning to wait on God and seeking the Holy Spirit to let Him do the leading.

-I would tell her that she REALLY should start taking care of herself and making diet and exercise an important part of her life. I'd tell her that at 22 all she needed to lose was about 30 lbs, but at 37, she would need to lose 110! All because she has a bad attitude toward health and fitness. I would tell her that her 37 year old self would thank her for sparing her from joint pains in her knees and hips from being obese and carrying too much weight, from feeling exhausted all the time because she ate right and exercised. I would tell her to START NOW!

-I would tell her that she should NOT quit singing for anything! 22 year old Angie got discouraged and quit singing for the most part after she quit school, but I would tell her not to give up on her passion. I would tell her that if she keeps plugging away little by little that by the time she's 37, she would most definitely have a viable, thriving singing career.

-I would tell her that she's not disqualified! That although she made mistakes in her past, her past does not define her and that she can move forward with the dreams and goals God placed in her heart. 22 year old Angie thought that God was mad at her and took all her dreams away as punishment, but 37 year old Angie would tell her that is a lie and to cast that down!

-I would tell her that she has an enemy and that she has to stay vigilant a recognize his schemes and lies. That this enemy seeks to destroy her and her family, but that God has a better plan and through Christ, she is always the winner!!!

-I would tell her that she should finish college as soon as she can! It took 8 years to finish after she went back, but I would tell 22 year old Angie to make it a priority to just go full time and get it done!

-I would tell her to SAVE, SAVE, SAVE! As a 22 year old, she didn't save money EVER, but I would tell her that her older self would thank her because she had gotten into the habit of saving and had a safety cushion when hard times came. I would tell her that she would have a LOT of hard times and would be grateful for having put back some savings!

-I would tell her to grow up and take care of her business now! Young Angie never really kept a budget or knew what was going on with her finances. She didn't keep a detailed checkbook and spent money without thinking. I would tell her that these bad habits would get her into a lot of trouble and that she'd experience a terrible fleecing of her money...that it would always filter through her fingers like sand if she didn't get her house in order!

-And I would tell her that her husband really is a gem and will be by her side through everything and that Jesus is her best friend. I would tell her that they will go through a lot together and that her husband is her biggest fan and that he loves her more than anything. I would also tell her that Jesus is her reason for living. That she will never be satisfied until she gets one on one with Him and makes Him her everything. I'd tell her that Jesus is her promised land and the sooner she realizes this the better off she'll be because it will save her from wandering around in the desert searching for something that is already there.

And do you know what's funny folks? Reading through these, I'm thinking, "I bet the 52 year old Angie (52? Yikes!) would have a few things to say to 37 year old Angie. And it would be a shame if it was the same list!

I know what I do NOW will either serve me down the road, or be a detriment to me. Not taking care of myself is one example. What will my health be in 15 years if I continue the same way I am now with no change? I feel tired and run down, I can only imagine how much worse I would feel at 52 if I don't get it together! And money issues? I can either start saving NOW or be in a really bad place 15 years from now, getting older and older and older with less time to prepare for our retirement years.

So as I jot down some things the 37 year old Angie would tell the 22 year old Angie, it begs the question, "Will I learn from this so the 52 year old Angie doesn't wish she had taken better steps 15 years earlier?"

Gotta keep reminding myself that small changes over time make a GIANT impact!!!

What would you tell your 22 year old self? Or if you're still young, what would you tell your teenage self?  Are you still repeating the same patterns over and over, or have you learned some lessons along the way?

It's a good exercise in evaluating where you've been, where you are now and where you want to be.

My Embarrassing Secret

After much consideration, I've decided to share a secret with you (linking up with Nan's "Making Your Home Sing" Meme)

It's quite embarrassing actually, but I'm going to share anyway. Maybe you have the same issue I do and can relate in some way.

And here it is...my problem.

I am addicted to this Youtube video.

Yes, it's a cleaning lady washing a kitchen sink, narrated by a fella with a thick, heavy accent that I can't quite identify (sounds to me like Billy Crystal doing Fernando Lamas, "You look mahvelous!")

Strange, huh?

I'm not sure if it's the running water in the sink (I love the sound of running water, but feel too guilty to actually do it in my own kitchen. I always feel like I'm wasting. So, I live vicariously through Ms. Boston Quality Cleaning Services...she can run all the water she wants as far as I'm concerned.) that is so relaxing to me, or the anticipation of hearing Mr. Boston Quality Cleaning Services say, "Not only clean, but sparkling clean" just one more time, but there's just something about this video that keeps me coming back. I watch it nearly every night before bed because it makes me sleepy.

I know...it's weird.

But it's not a complete waste of time. I've gleaned some usefulness from this video as well. I tried scrubbing my sink the way the amazing lady in the video does. AND IT'S NOT EASY! She really does work so fast and efficiently. When I tried her water tossing and rinsing technique, I got water all over myself, the counters, the floor, everything! And she rinses off all that soap in one fell swoop! It took me twenty minutes to get my sink all rinsed out! I even put on a pair of rubber gloves like she wears. But I got so much water in them, by the time I was finished making a mess cleaning the sink, my fingers had turned into prunes! I need more practice!

And if I were her, I may not have been able to keep my cool while Mr. Camera Man kept getting all up in my personal space and snatching my paper towels (Betcha didn't even notice that did ya? See! I told you I've watched this too many times!). He also snatches the the hand soap pumps...I hope he returns them before he leaves the offices of Metric Corporations in Brighton!

And my "polishing method" needs work. Or maybe my sink is just old. But it DID NOT "shine like a mirror" when I was finished.

However, it did end up "sparkling clean" so I think Mr. Boston Quality Cleaning Services would have been pleased. Because it was, "Not only clean, but sparkling clean." Again, you want it, "Not only clean, but sparkling clean."

You really can't emphasize the importance of "making it sparkle" enough. ha!

Do you have any favorite Youtube videos that you like to watch over and over? If so, feel free to share! Or keep your self-respect intact and keep it to yourself (unlike me).

Have a great week everyone! And shine those sinks (or just watch Youtube videos on shining your sink)!

Facebook Reflections...Some Things I Really Don't "Like"

I absolutely LOVE facebook. If I didn't, I wouldn't be on it so much. One day, I will do a post on what I love about it. But what was on my mind today was what I just don't "like" about facebook.

And usually when I'm reflecting like this, I'm feeling convicted about my own behavior. I have certainly needed a learning curve myself after these 4 years or so on "fb." I've said too much, been passive aggressive, put my political and personal views out there a little too aggressively, used fb to market businesses instead of building friendships, used fb to spy on people, have "friended" people from my past that I shouldn't have and have even had inappropriate conversations. I've gossiped, I've chatted inappropriately and I've not always been kind, thoughtful or considerate.

I've learned a lot of lessons the hard way.

And I know I'm not the only one.

Facebook can be a tool for good, or a tool for evil.

And whether we like it or not (or even see it), facebook is an extension of our tongue. When we type it and put it out there, it really is just like we strapped on a megaphone and blasted it all out on the loudspeaker of the world!

I've just observed so much nastiness over the years on facebook. A great deal of it comes from people who just don't know any better, but unfortunately, a lot of it has come from the people who DO know better (or who are supposed to at least) and are supposed to be the most full of love....the Christians. It breaks my heart to see my brothers and sisters get sucked into the drama and ugliness that can come from "social networking." And I've seen what damage it can do.

So here are a few of my VERY OPINIONATED views of what I see and don't like about facebook.

You immature people who are easily offended? Read at your own risk. :)

Passive Aggressiveness.
Either be passive, or be aggressive. But don't be both. It's obnoxious. If you really do have a problem with someone, tell them in a private message or call them. Don't blast your nonsense all over facebook. It's nauseating.

The false sense that you really know these people you call, "friends."
This is proven when you actually see them in person and there's a weird awkwardness. Have you ever encountered this?  You spend so much time with people on facebook that you know the names of their kids, you know the last time they had a sandwich, you know if they're having marital problems, you know if they're happy, sad, lonely, angry, on vacation, where they are (if they "check in") throughout the day, you know their dreams, their accomplishments, their disappointments, their financial situations and their opinion on every issue under the sun. You know them like you do your best friend. Yet when you actually encounter them in person, in a real human way, there's such a disconnect, it's palpable. You know them, but you don't really KNOW them. I would love for someone to do a study on this. If you know of one, let me know. I'd love to read it.

I don't like knowing so much about people.
I really do believe in the old saying, "Ignorance is bliss," because I had a whole lot more love and respect for people before facebook (one of the reasons I often consider deleting my account on a daily basis and gettin' off of there). Now that we post about (I said "we" cuz I do it too) anything and everything we think, feel, see, taste, touch or smell and put it out there for the world to see, the world then forms an opinion of us that can not be undone.

I hate that I've lost real-life friends as a direct result of facebook
Yes, this is the worst one. Whether it be misunderstandings, or just how loose we've become with our words because we are in the comfort of our homes, behind the mask of a computer screen, how we talk to each other and about each other on facebook can and does affect our real life friendships, or can even burn bridges to those not-so-close friends. In my own facebook experience, my feelings have been hurt, trust and confidence has been damaged and one or two dear friendships have been lost. I was even "deleted" by one of my dearest and closest friends, while they maintained a "friend" status with my own husband. Ouch. So be careful out there. If you have a beef with a real-life friend, don't use facebook to hash it out because there can always be misunderstandings in what you write, as they can't hear the inflection of your voice, your tone, or the heart or meaning behind what you're trying to say. USE THE PHONE people (to talk, not to text)! Looking back, I wish I had.

I hate that facebook is becoming less and less private.
Facebook changes their privacy settings  all the time. One minute you are only seeing your friends posts on your news feed, the next minute you see the friends of friends and their likes, comments, and shares. Everyone can pretty much see everything. It makes me question just what I should be putting out there and makes me cherish all the more my anonymity...if there is such a thing anymore.

I hate knowing what cowards people can be.
People have a whole lot to say and can say it as fast as their little fingers can type. But if actually confronted with the person they were blasting, they would NEVER say the things they do on facebook. To me, this is one of the most cowardly things I've ever seen...blasting people online, behind closed doors from your little laptop but being too chicken to actually tell them to their face. What a big, bad person you are! But we all know the truth. You are a coward. So please, think before you type. A good rule is, if you wouldn't say it to someone's face, don't "say" it on facebook. And by the way...nobody's impressed.

My BIGGEST pet peeve about facebook! When "friends" don't use balance.
When "friends" you NEVER hear from EVER, all of a sudden show up in your comments and blast you when they disagree with you about something or just want to throw in their two cents but they never have anything positive or pleasant to say about anything else you post, it just really irritates me. A few months ago, I posted a perfectly innocent question about what readers thought about the topic of pastors going to see movies that were rated R and contained nudity, graphic sexual situations, extreme language and extreme violence. I asked this because I had seen several pastors post that they had seen a certain movie that was out at the time (rated R and known to be particularly bad) and they had shared different reactions to it...some LOVED it and some had to get up and leave because they felt so uncomfortable with the language, violence and nudity. I didn't offer an opinion, only posed the question, "What do you think?" And to my disappointment, people who I consider real friends came out of the wood works and I began getting those passive aggressive comments about how judgmental I was being and how it was really none of my business (and this has happened in other instances as well). I absolutely welcome good discussion and even disagreements. I love to hear all sides on an issue, and let people freely discuss in the comments (unless they start personally attacking each other, then I start deleting). But when people I know in real life NEVER make other comments on things I post, never "like" anything, never have anything nice to say or show any interest in me or my daughter or my husband or what I'm doing in my life, they never send a personal message just to say hi or offer any kind of encouragement, but they find it absolutely necessary to show up when they have something negative to say? I'm sorry. That just really disappoints me. You see, there has to be balance. Go ahead and disagree with me...even in a very spirited way, I'm up for it! Let's have a good discussion, or even a disagreement in love. But don't do it if you have no other relationship with me on facebook....especially if we know each other on a personal level in real life. Or if you think I'm out of line on something, and we're actually friends in real life, send me a personal message or better yet, MAKE A PHONE CALL. Have that discussion if you need to get something off your chest. But blasting friends in the comments section has nothing to do with "love." It really has nothing to do with real friendship either. If you don't have anything nice to say, just don't say anything at all. You really have no right to if there's no balance elsewhere.

I REALLY hate "pokes."
They're just creepy. I guess I just don't get what they mean. I envision someone poking me in the rib or something like boys would do in middle school to be obnoxious. And that's another interesting point. I've never gotten a "poke" from a woman on facebook...only from men. I guess you boys just don't grow out of it.

When people blast others for their kids' behavior or try to tell others how to raise their kids.
Sure I've had my fair share of nasty things to say about kids (generally at the McDonald's play place!), but just lay off of how your facebook friends raise their kids. Do you not remember how hard it was for you to keep your own little darlings in line? And do you not have a memory about your own adolescent years? Don't you remember how obnoxious you were as a teenager or how you talked with your friends? Unfortunately the kids today have grown up with social media, so they don't know how not to act or talk on facebook (unless their parents are standing over them and scrutinizing every single post...my personal feeling is kids and teenagers shouldn't even have facebook pages for the very reason that they just aren't mature enough yet and often don't have a filter on their precious little mouths. But more importantly not for what they do, but for what others do that we can't protect them from...but that's my own opinion. You are perfectly capable of deciding what's best for your own child, and you will never hear a word fr om me on that on facebook...I promise). Don't you remember what a lying bully you were when you 3 way called a friend to get her to gossip about the other girl you had on the line? Don't you remember writing mean notes and passing them in class? Well, these kids do it too, they just do all their stuff out in front of God and everybody! It's a shame, but it's just the way it is. And it's just not "kids today." Kids have always been immature and acted foolishly since the beginning of time. So lighten up you hateful grownup. If you have a problem with someone or their kids, go to them in person like the mature, responsible adult you are.

People expect you to be there for them and get mad when you're not.
And this goes back to what I said earlier about having a false sense of "friendship." Facebook "friends" really aren't your friends. Facebook is a virtual world, and you live in the real world. You may have a few honest-to-goodness real life friends who happen to be your friend on facebook. But the other 1,132? They aren't your friends. So don't take it personally or hold them accountable when they're not there for you.  When you're going through a tough time and you're not flooded with messages, comments, etc, you begin to feel like no one cares. Then you rant about how no one really cares about you all over facebook. And let's just get real for a second. We only do that for attention, right? Seriously. You know you do. Before facebook, when you went through a tough time (when your cat died or your car got broken into or you had the flu or your spouse lost their job) were you flooded with calls, visits from friends, letters of encouragement, cards, notes? The answer is, "NO." You weren't. Because in real life, there are always going to be only a handful of people who reach out in love and show they care, if that many. That's just the way it is. People are people. They are not perfect...and the world does not revolve around you. So why on facebook, do you expect people to be any different or expect everyone to notice you? Only now, when you feel alone and disappointed, you blast it out for the world to see. If you get a few comments or messages, count yourself lucky and know you're loved whether or not anyone seems to notice. Take your hurts and disappointments to God. He always notices, He always cares, and He's always there. He's always the PERFECT friend!

I have a lot of beefs about how Christians use
facebook...here are a few.

Christians who hold their unsaved "facebook friends" to some kind of holy standard.
I mostly see this from "baby Christians" (as the Apostle Paul would call them). Because if you were a grownup in Christ, you would have more grace for the lost and less "SMH" kind of judgement toward them and you wouldn't blast them on ill-thought-out facebook posts. If you have friends on facebook who curse in their posts, say lewd things, have political views that you don't agree with, post pics of themselves in a lifestyle that doesn't sit well with you or offends you, just HIDE THEM! I get it...you don't want to see all that mess every day. So get it out from in front of you. But what you don't do is go on some self-righteous rant about how awful it is that some people (I just know that when I see that phrase "some people," there's always some sort of self-righteous nonsense coming after it, Have you ever noticed that?) don't know how to act on facebook. But what do you expect? Did you know how to act before Christ? Of course you didn't. So why are you now so uptight toward your friends and family who don't know Jesus? The only difference between them and you is the cross. Only by the grace of God did you have a moment of clarity and saw your sin and asked Jesus to forgive you. So now, it's your job to PRAY for those people who just don't know yet...not judge and criticize them. How 'bout the next time you see a friend or family member cussin' and carryin' on in a facebook post, you send them a private message, or better yet, CALL THEM up and invite them to lunch or over to your house for a cookout or have their family over for game night or something. Develop a real relationship with them and pray for the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom about when to invite them to church or talk to them about Jesus. BE A LIGHT to people and BE the love of Christ....not the person standing with the crowd with a big stone in their hand.

Christians who blast other Christians.
These posts usually start off with, "I can't believe some Christians..." Or they are mad about something or how someone treated them and they spew out, "....and they're supposed to be a Christian." Or, "Well, I know I'm not perfect, but I would NEVER do that!" Well there, you just said it. You're not perfect. So why do you hold someone else to such a standard? You may not have done that particular thing you're mad about, but you've done many other REALLY bad things, or thought about doing REALLY bad things and you know it. If you had any love in your heart, you'd forgive and COVER that person's transgression, not blast their wrong all over facebook just to make yourself look better or feel better.

1 Peter 4:8 says,
"Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins."

"Most important of all" folks. Love will actually cover up what somebody did so that no one else ever finds out about it....and love will do it over and over again. You are the embodiment of "LOVE." If you are a Christian, you are "in" Jesus Christ! So love your brother or sister like He did. If they wrong you or you disagree with something they did or are doing, go to them like a grown up and have a conversation about it. Take up for them to others. Pray for them. Blasting your brothers and sisters on facebook does none of these things, and it certainly isn't pleasing to Christ who died for so much more than this pettiness.

Christians with big mouths.
Do you know why there's literally hundreds of scriptures in the Bible on taming your tongue? Because God knows how destructive it can be and warns us over and over again to get it under control. So if you know you have an issue with this, and you just can't keep your mouth shut, and you're a Christian, you should probably delete your facebook account until you can learn to keep your hateful, spiteful, gossiping, whining, bickering, complaining mouth closed. Because you make the rest of us look bad and you're doing more damage to the body of Christ than you can imagine. And keep in mind, the Bible says that on judgment day, you (I) will be judged on every word, and that means the words that you are typing with your little fingers too. Remember what Jesus said about, "...if your right hand offends you, cut it off?" Kinda like that, but with facebook.

Sourpuss Christians on facebook
Again, if you're a Christian and a great big sour-puss, just do us all a favor and delete your account. You never have anything nice to say. You're easily ticked off, you are offended by the least little thing and you are harsh and critical to everyone. You are the person who has those venomous things to say when you don't agree with someone's politics. You are the one who is always griping and complaining about their job, how they feel, how tired they are, how depressed they are, how crappy the world is, how badly folks are treating you. You complain about bratty teenagers and have a mouthful to say about how people (especially Christians) should be raising their kids (when everyone knows your kids are the biggest brats of all). You never post about the beauty in things, you never have any encouraging words or anything nice at all to say to anyone else. If there was a "dislike" button on facebook, your finger would be sore from hitting it so much. You're just a sourpuss and you make the world a whole lot uglier. If you are a Christian (and I would pray about that if I were you), pray and ask Jesus how to start showing LOVE and ask Him to fill you with more JOY. Ask Him to help you see the world and people the way HE does. And for heaven's sake, get off of facebook with all your hatefulness 'til you and Jesus do get your sourpuss-self under control.

Christians who don't do anything but preach on facebook.
I know this one is going to be controversial and might ruffle some feathers, but let me explain....
I post A LOT of scriptures. I LOVE putting the word of God out there when He shows me something cool from the Bible that was a benefit for me, and generally, it's a benefit or encouragement to others (because they tell me so). And I talk about God A LOT! He is the greatest part of my life, so of course I would talk about Him on facebook. But if you ONLY post Bible stuff on your personal page all day, every day, people start to glaze over. Why? Because facebook is a "social network." It is a place where you get to know each other and socialize. If the only people you want to socialize with are other Bible posters, then you guys make a group page and post all day long about how much Bible you know. Like I said, the rest of us just scroll right past your bombardment of "scripture posts." If you are interacting with us on other personal levels, then when you do post something about the Bible, we are much more inclined to perk up and read it. But if we've never related to you, how do you expect us to relate to what you have to say about God? So Christian friend, don't keep yourself in a box. Interact with us! Comment on our posts, tell us your opinions on some worldly stuff (restaurants, sports teams, places you've visited, tv shows, movies), show us your personality a little, lighten up. Post pics of your family, your kids, your grand kids. Show us you have a life just like we do and that we can relate to you. Friendship is about relationships and other people. Preaching on facebook all the time is just about you.

So there you have it, some of my greatest pet peeves about facebook. Feel free to comment below. I respect what you have to say, whether I agree with it or not. But please keep your comments kind and respectful. Anything else will just be deleted. :)

My Big Weekend in Knoxville...Singing, Eating and Having Fun!

This weekend I was invited to sing in Knoxville, Tennessee for Knoxville Christian Center's annual "All American BBQ." I sing patriotic songs, the men of the church work all night to grill fantastic barbecue, and the ladies make fabulous sides and desserts. It's one of my favorite times of the year!

My name on the marquee! Neat!

pic taken from www.knoxvillechristiancenter.org

And how cool is it to have your pic on the event advertising?

pic taken from www.knoxvillechristiancenter.org

This is a picture taken a few years ago when we used the choir.
If you love your country, patriotic music is so moving.

Here I am singing "God Bless America" this year...

This year my husband and daughter didn't go (he had to work, and she wanted to spend the weekend at Grammy's), so I took along my friend Crystal and we made it a girl's weekend.

We ate really good food, slept late, listened to 80's music on Sirius satellite radio and being girls, talked and talked and talked. It was fun!

Fried green tomatoes and cheese grits with two types of gravy at Puleo's Grille...one of my all-time favorite places to eat!

I also got to meet up with my good friend Tammy from my college days. She made me download an app to my iPhone against my will so that I could watch Jimmy Swaggert podcasts (she loves some Jimmy Swaggert!). ha! She's a hoot!

I even had really good hair days! I'm really feelin' the curly, blonde do I've been sportin' this summer....

I had a great time!

Next trip to Knoxville will hopefully be this fall when we take little G to her first Tennessee Vols football game! Daddy is super excited about that!

Got An Unexpected Gift In The Mail Today!

Last night was a doozie!

My daughter rarely gets sick, so when she developed and ear infection a couple days ago, it threw us both for a loop. Ear infections are bothersome and certainly painful (I had one myself a few months ago), so I understood what she was going through.

Poor baby...I took this pic around 3am...mom and little G were both not looking for feeling very good. :(

She was literally up all night, crying from the exhaustion and the pain.

It was rough.

This morning, trying to get it together was rough.

So when I got a package in the mail, it was a welcome distraction and my mood perked up a little.

I had ordered some skin care products the other day, so that was what I was expecting to see when I opened the box.

But instead.....

I found a "thank you" card and BROWNIES!!!! WOW!!!

I did a favor for a friend earlier in the week, so to thank me, she sent me a gift. I was nearly in tears it made me feel so good inside (thank you Jane!).

On a day like today, I really needed to know someone cared.

The card and brownies were from Send Out Cards, an online greeting card and gifting service. Instead of running down to the Hallmark store or to Walmart for a card, a gift, then to the post office to post it and mail it out, this company has made it easy and affordable to just send cards and gifts from the comfort of your own home. They put it all together and mail it for you. "Click and order" again replacing "brick and mortar."

I have been sort of a "prodigal son" when it comes to Send Out Cards. Because they are a network marketing company, I signed on as a distributor and was building my own business with them. But I had been attracted to newer, flashier businesses that promised quick sales and big money, and I stepped away from Send Out Cards.

However, I found the other company to be pushy, and about things that are surface and superficial to me (not saying they are superficial in general, just superficial to me). So my interest in them faded quickly. But I never forgot Send Out Cards and longed to be a part of it again. The funny thing is, I had been seriously considering coming back to my first love and promoting that "culture of giving" like I used to do.

You see, I naturally enjoy encouraging people. And as proved to me today, nothing lifts the spirits more than receiving an unexpected card in the mail. And I quickly realized why I joined up with Send Out Cards in the first place. I love the message about giving not to get, but just giving for the sake of giving. And I LOVE the people in this company. ALL are givers at heart and the most positive happy people in the world to be around!

I just wanted to quickly share how that card made me feel today...to know that someone appreciates you and cares about you is just priceless. And it makes me just want to pay it forward....to make someone else's day.

If you're interested in starting this journey of giving with me, email me at angiehowardmusicatgmaildotcom or visit my Send Out Cards web page to learn more and let's chat! :)

(LOVE THIS COMPANY!!!!)

Protein Prescription

A number of years ago (like, 10 or so), I went to the doctor to discuss some options for weight management. I was hoping for a long sit down to discuss what my issues were, why I was so heavy (over 300 lbs at the time), a thorough examination, maybe some blood work. But the only thing he offered me was a book title. Huh?

He asked if I had ever read the book, Protein Power by Dr.s Michael and Mary Eades. I said that I had not read it, but had read about the benefits of a higher protein, lower carbohydrate diet. So, he went on to explain how eating more protein instead of carbohydrates enables your body to begin burning your own fat stores as energy instead of burning sugars as energy. I knew all this. I had even done a low-carb diet before and lost about 15 lbs in the first two weeks, but didn't stick to it. And that was it....he had spoken his peace and that was that. He wanted me on a low-carb diet.

He wrote the name of the book and the author on a prescription pad and handed it to me.

I was like, huh? A prescription for a book?

Where's my strategic, detailed diet and exercise plan?

Where's the blood work, the tests? Isn't he going to prove that this is something that I can't help?

Where's the miracle pill?

But I think he did the best thing I could have ever asked for...he wanted me to get educated!

Wow! What would the world be like if all doctors prescribed books as required reading before they passed out pills? The drug companies would go broke and book sales would skyrocket!

Anyway, I went right out, bought the book, read most of it (a lot of the chapters are VERY technical...boring) and never followed through with a low carbohydrate diet. And although I've lost a little weight, I've hovered within 20 lbs of 300 ever since and it's taken its toll on my body.

Since then, I've had the blood work and the exams hoping this indeed wasn't MY fault. But there was nothing wrong with me...other than laziness and I like to eat too much. And the only cure for that is a change in me.

So now, 10 years late, it's taken my knees nearly giving out every day from climbing and climbing the stairs in this 3 level apartment for me to want (need) to get it together!

I've been using an app for my phone called, My Fitness Pal to count calories for me, and I've absolutely loved it! But the weight wasn't coming off fast enough. I need to lose like 50 lbs in the next couple months or I'm just not going to be able to make it ya'll! I'm in so much pain every day! I know that dropping the weight will ease the strain on my knees, so I need to lose it fast!

And what came to mind? That's right. That doctors appointment from 10 years ago. So, I'm jumping on the low-carb bandwagon. I'm not looking for a quick fix (well, I kinda am), I'm looking for a life change. And I know this will be the best thing for me. I believe sugar is killing me ya'll. So, I've got to limit myself big time, or I'm going to be a fat old woman who can't walk because her knees gave out in her 30's! Oh wait, you don't really see a lot of "fat" old people do you? That's because they don't make it. I don't want to die young if I can help it.

So, this is day 4 of my low-carb diet (following the Atkins Diet) and I've lost 6 lbs so far limiting myself to 20 carbs a day or less. That's induction for ya! You really can drop a lot of weight quickly by eating such limited carbs. But you can't eat that way forever. That's why I love the book, Atkins for Life. It gives you a detailed plan to start adding good carbohydrates like fruits, starchy vegetables, beans, legumes, and whole wheat breads and pastas back into your diet and continue to lose, or maintain your desired weight.

I know I've said MANY times on this blog that I was going to lose weight and get healthy, but this time, I'm doing it for a different reason. This time, I'm in pain ya'll....and pain will push you to make a change whether you like it or not! So yes, I'm willing to do whatever it takes to be out of pain! :) ha! Maybe my doctor knew that all along! :)

A Day in the Life of ME...A SAHM's Daily Routine and a Home Tour!

So as promised, I finally got to work making some You Tube videos for you! I didn't really know what to start off with, so in PUT IT ALL OUT THERE FASHION as I tend to do, I decided to let you see me first thing in the morning, see my house (apartment), my messes, my unpacked boxes (2 months later), my laundry, and you get to see my heart a little as well...oh, and you get to see me right out of the shower looking truly unbelievable...and not in a good way (i.e. red, blotchy skin, hair in a towel, etc.).

But this is me ya'll. If you know me, you know I don't hold back and I keep it REAL!

But really, is there any other way to be?

So there are 9 (yes, count them, 9) videos in all that cover my day and routines (or lack thereof) from waking up to going to bed. I will share one of them here for you, but if you'd like to see the rest, visit my You Tube channel here....
Please like and subscribe to my You Tube channel...it would mean so much!!! :)

Enjoy....

Supporting a Brother in Christ in His Music Ministry

Tonight I went to hear my bro in Christ, Elijah Rogers sing at a venue/ministry called KYOVA. He was really amazing! It's important to me to support my friends, so every chance I get to be there for them, I will!

Elijah and I sang together in our former group Crossfire. But, due to my moving, and his living so far away to begin with, we both stepped away from the group. It was a tough decision to make, but one that was best for me and my family. He jumped right back into singing, moving forward with recording a solo CD and booking places to sing like crazy! Me, on the other hand, I've been much more cautious. When you're a wife and a mom, those obligations take priority, so I haven't wanted to do anything that would be a hardship on my family. We've had enough stress, what, with the my husband's job loss and the move and all. I just want to be careful, that's all...do things in God's perfect timing.

But back to Elijah and KYOVA. First of all, Elijah really shines as a solo tenor. He has a very unique testimony (he has a child with autism and is a very young husband and father) and shares so beautifully how God has "brought him through the fire" many times. He gets the crowd going and really ministers...that is truly a gift (check out his website HERE)!

And I just love KYOVA, which stands for "Kentucky Ohio Valley Association" (I think). It is a ministry that provides a place for Christian folks to go every Friday night to enjoy food, fellowship and music. Each Friday night, they have a crowd of around 200 or more! It's incredible! Sometimes it's standing room only!!! The dinner is around 5 bucks and the entertainment is free. They give away door prizes and everyone just has a good time hanging out. I think it's just great. Every little town needs a ministry/venue like that to give folks a place to get out of the house and enjoy the company of others.

I sure enjoyed a night of good ol' gospel singin' and the company of these brothers! Me, Pastor Dale (Elijah's pastor from their church, Lighthouse Baptist in Shelbiana, KY...man, they are gettin' people saved and baptisin' like crazy over there!) and Elijah.

And the dinner they served! UH-MAY-ZING! I was expecting a hot dog or a burger, but they had full-on soup beans, fried potatoes, kraut, cornbread and home made cobblers and pies. It was incredible (thanks Pastor Dale for dinner!). I highly encourage you, if you live in the Huntington/Ashland area to check it out (take your grandparents...they'd love it!).

And have Elijah Rogers come sing at your church or event sometime. You will be blessed!

Working With Your Strengths and Doing Something a Little Different

I have been praying a lot about what God wants me to do in this new season of my life. When you move, whether you like it or not, you are thrown into a sort of "defacto" new season. I think when my daughter goes to school in the fall, that will be an even NEWER season, but that's still a few months away. So, in a new season I am, and I'm wondering what in the world I can do with my life right now that is meaningful to me and the Kingdom (and yes, being a wife and a mom is meaningful, but God is calling me to do other things right now too).

For a while there (several weeks) I was looking at what I didn't have (i.e. a car, lots of extra cash, etc.) and what I couldn't do, but lately I've been praying about what I CAN do. And again, I'm lead to the internet.

I have been a little concerned with having a large presence online, especially for my daughter. So many people have access to personal pictures of my family, my personal thoughts, and a lot of my personal information (where I live, etc.). But when it all comes down to it, I set it up that way, so I can't complain about it. The world is the way it is (pretty evil) and other than remove myself from the web completely and pray, there's really not much I can do but be careful and watchful.

So after serious contemplation and prayer about whether or not to get offline completely, I have decided against it. The world needs Christians online. There's so much garbage on the internet...it makes my stomach turn to know some of the things you can do and see online, but as Christians, I believe we can counter it! We can pray and we can share THE WORD of GOD and the HOPE in JESUS CHRIST! So, I'm here to stay, but now, I'm EXPANDING!!!!!

As I have prayed, I've asked the Lord to show me where my strengths lie and how I can use them for Him and as a blessing to the Body.

Here's what I'm NOT going to do....

I'm not going to focus on how to keep a tidy house and offer organizational tips, because, that ain't my gift ya'll! ha!

I'm not going to blog about how to manage your finances and live a frugal life...not my strength either.

I'm not going to make this a "foodie" blog, although I may post recipes sometimes, because I enjoy cooking, but it's not my passion.

And while I may post encouragements on exercise and eating right (because I'm working on that myself right now), I'm not going to school you in those areas. Again, not my strength (for now).

But here is what I AM going to do...

I am going to offer to pray for you (look for a link to the right to post prayer requests).

I am going to be an encouragement to you.

I am going to start making videos (something new for me) that offer my insights on the Bible and living the Christian life and whatever else I decide to talk about.

I am going to write posts that speak honestly and openly about my struggles as well as my victories.

And I am going to sing!!!! If not for anyone else, as a praise to Jesus!

So, instead of focusing on what I DON'T have to be able to minister to people, I'm choosing to focus on what I DO have, which is the internet, and I'm gonna work the heck out of it for the Kingdom of God! ha!

Stay tuned!!!! And if you have prayer requests, please leave them in the comment section below, or email me... angieacapella@gmail.com

Blessings to you all!!!!

I'm Back Baby!

Well, after a spell of severe depression over eminent foreclosure on our house, moving to a new town to an apartment, being down to one vehicle and being stuck at home everyday, lonely and sad, I decided to do something about it and start blogging again! Nothing like whining about your problems to the internet to make a girl feel good! ;)

So, I'm back baby!

Here's an update...

Our house has yet ANOTHER contract on it (#3), but this one really is set to close in 2 weeks. Only problem is, we are footing the bill for ALL the closing costs, so we are going to have to come up with $7,000 out of thin air! I may just have to go hold one of those cardboard signs out by the interstate and beg for money. Not sure how we are going to get that kind of money in 2 weeks, but I am praying (and fasting) for a miracle. At any rate, selling the house beats a final foreclosure any day, so we're still happy about it!

We are settled in our new town (Huntington, West Virginia) and doing okay. My husband's car is out of commission at the moment, so he takes mine every day to work. I will be honest and admit that I hate this arrangement. I feel trapped, lonely, bored and pretty depressed being cooped up in the house all day. My favorite thing is getting out in the car and exploring and I just haven't gotten to do that here. I've been in a funk and it's been hard to climb out of it.

I feel like a failure. And my knee hurts.
I have absolutely no life outside of this apartment (it is 3 floors and the stairs are wearing on my knees!) and it's very depressing to me. I know I should try to find the joy in being home with my daughter and serving my husband as a wife and a mom, but if I'm being honest, I have to say that makes me gag a little. I love them with all my heart and would do anything for them (and pretty much DO), but I've always been a pretty independent girl and not having something for me is making me feel unfulfilled and lost. The only fix for this is to do what I love, and that is SING! So, I'm going to be working on that BIG TIME!

Me and Jesus are still pretty tight, but I feel like I've let myself fall into a pity spiral and He feels far away. I know ultimately, HE is the answer to every desire of my heart and I'm finding my way back to Him by doing another long fast. I don't feel strongly called to do it like I did last year, but I WANT to do it to draw closer to Him and to cleanse my body....sort of like Spring cleaning for the body and the soul! I'm also hoping we find a church soon. We've visited several, but haven't found that right fit for us yet. Soon.

So, I'm back ya'll! I hope you read and comment. You can keep me company as I get acclimated to this new place. I soooo need friends right now. Thanks for being there for me! :)

Rockin' the Red and Enjoying Autumn Fun

Today started out on a bad note...

So, I decided to perk up my mood.

Some ladies love a dangly earring, some love a great hairdo or a spritz of their favorite perfume.

But If you read this blog, you know that nothin' makes me happier than rockin' a punchy red lip!

And it worked...

Red is definitely my color.

It perked my mood right up!

And then I got silly...

Crazy eyes!

Scary smooch!

Which then put me int the mood to play around in the leaves with little G.

she calls this her "big smile..."

...and this is her "little smile..."

We chased each other around our neighbor's oak tree and had a ball
throwing mounds of leaves on each other.

Such a great day!

This is what the fall is all about....

A Day of Mindless Eating

Do you ever have those days when you just eat, and eat, and eat, and eat.....and eat some more? You really don't even think about it, you just stuff your face full of food? Sadly, I have those days more times than I'd like to admit.

Today on facebook I posted that I'd had a nice lunch of salmon, and that I had a really great apple for a snack later this evening, but as I reflected on this, I realized the picture I painted was one of health and good choices. But looks are often deceiving.

Yes, I did have salmon and apples today, but I also had a LOT of junk. I began to think, "You big faker! You need to tell the truth!" ha!

So, in an effort to "keep it real," because I HATE hypocrisy and being fake with you and myself, I decided to put it all out there...to let you see what ELSE I've eaten today.

If you read this blog, you know that eating too much is one of those nagging issues I have yet to do real work on...but I will.

Because I'm not satisfied, in Christ, with less than His very best for me, which includes taking care of myself. With His help, I know I can do anything. I know it.

But today, I didn't take care of myself, I stuffed myself.

Here's what I ate...

Morning-
A few sips of coffee with cream and sugar
A bottle of water

Noon-
Arby's Junior Roast Beef w/ Cheddar
Small Pepsi
large apple

Afternoon-
A handful of potato chips
a handful of cheese crackers
2 cups of Coke
serving of broiled salmon
a spoonful of leftover au gratin potatoes
half a bottle of water

Evening-
Another handful of cheese crackers
2 more cups of Coke
bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats

Late Evening-
another handful of potato chips
Butterfinger candy bar
large apple

I know...

YUCK.

I'm a Morning Hag...

This is how I feel in the morning....

Like Grendel from Beowulf...

Like a junkyard dog...

Like the Wicked Witch of the West...

Like a venomous snake...

Like an evil old hag...

Like a prickly cactus...

Like a man-eating shark...

Like a zombie....

This morning, when my little girl came bouncing in at 7:00 a.m. (on a Saturday mind you), I exacted all the wrath of all of these terrible, fearsome creatures onto her. I was yelling and stomping around in a sleepy, growly, fumbling fog, ordering her back to bed.

It was ugly.

I felt ugly.

I had to apologize.

My husband finally had to intervene and get up at that ungodly hour because I was in no mood to deal with breakfast or cartoons or opening my eyes.

At 10:00 a.m. I finally arose to a fresh pot of coffee (saved by my man again!) and began to feel human.

(what is it about this black, magic elixir that soothes the savage beast  first in the morning?
I'm not sure, but I sure do thank God for coffee)

This happens way too often and I'm so tired of feeling this way every morning.

The beginning of a new day is an opportunity to start fresh, to enjoy the quiet, to thank God for his new mercies.

But quite often, for me anyway, it's more like a, "Who gets their head bitten off first for waking me up?" start to the day.

Not good for me, or the recipient of my hatefulness.

I know that I set the tone in my home and it's my job to build it up, or tear it down. Proverbs 14:1 says,

A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.

I don't want to be the one responsible for the tearing down of the people in my family. I want to work to build them up! They deserve better...

and so do I.

So, I'm making a proclamation...

I'm getting up early this week!

But getting up early starts with NOT burning the midnight oil writing books or writing blogs or surfing the net or reading, or watching old movies.

To get up early, you have to go to bed early. It's nothing for me to stay up til 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning, but I am committing to going to bed this week, no later than 10:30 p.m.

And I'm going to try my level best to get up by 7 or 7:30 a.m....hopefully before the munchkin, who is usually bright-eyed and bushy-tailed by 8 a.m. at the latest.

So here's the checklist...

  1. Set coffee pot to brew by 7a.m. (after dinner the night before)
  2. Go to bed by 10:30 p.m.
  3. Set alarm clock for 7 a.m.
There...not so bad.

I will keep you posted on how this goes.

But it has to be done.
Because who likes waking up to "Grendel" first thing in the morning? :/

Surprise! A New Look!

Call it a midlife crisis, call it a fantasy of my husband's, call it whatever you want.

But here is my NEW LOOK!
LONG HAIR!!!!

A while back I was admiring this girl at my church who had GORGEOUS, long brunette hair that always looked incredible! One day I just went up to her and told her how beautiful it was and that I had always wanted long hair and just could never grow it out. She was like, "Girl, these are just extensions. I just clip them in. They're like $50 bucks at Sally's." She was so forthcoming and just cool about it. But the crazy thing is, I didn't believe her. They just looked so natural. Then she proceeded to show me where they were clipped in, etc. I was like, "No, no! I don't want to know! You need to keep some mystery girl!" And we laughed about it.

So the next week, I pointed her out to my husband and told him that her long gorgeous hair was mostly extensions! He couldn't believe it either. Then I proceeded to tell him that they came from Sally's etc. etc.

So, you will never guess what he got me for Valentines Day...A SALLY'S GIFT CARD FOR $50! He just thought it would be fun for me to try them. And of course, he himself wanted to see what it was like having a wifey with long gorgeous hair (so I guess you could say that gift was mostly for him! LOL). So I thought, ok...for fun, I'll try them out.

For about a week, I watched youtube videos with girls who showed you how to put them in and style them. They made it look so easy! I was actually really depressed about it if I were being honest. You see, I don't only have very fine, thin hair, I have thinning hair and have experienced quite a bit of hair loss over the past 15 years or so. And much more since having my daughter. So, needless to say, I'm pretty self-conscious about my hair. I'm never happy with it. When I grow it out, it just looks stringy and wicked witch-like, and when I cut it short, it just doesn't suit me. And styling it so that you don't see my baldness so much is pretty exhausting. So, I didn't want to get my hopes up that my hair would actually look as awesome as those girls in the youtube videos. It couldn't possibly! But I bit the bullet and decided to go for it anyway. If anything, for my husband, who had his hopes up, I think.

So, I made my way to Sally's and looked around and found a set of human hair extensions on sale for $49.99! Then the sales associate held up a swatch called "Sedona" to my hair and it was a PERFECT MATCH! It was actually very weird how perfect it was...our jaws were on the floor! So I bought them and some clips (because you have to sew on your own clips) and brought them home!

After painstakingly sewing on the clips, washing and styling them, it was finally time to put them in. I could tell right away that I needed to trim them some...they were way too long. So I gave them a trim (about 2 inches) and tried again. And low and behold, they looked AMAZING! My husband couldn't believe it. I saw a little twinkle in his eye and a big smile come across his face when I emerged from the bathroom to unveil the new do! He loves it!

I showed up at church with them in and no one, not even my life group friends could figure out what I had done differently. They were like, "You look different somehow?" When I told them about my hair, they couldn't get over what a match they were and how they looked so natural!

I had some reservations about even telling, because I am s0 self-conscious and don't want people staring at and studying my hair! But I thought, if the girl at church, the girls on youtube, and even Kathy Ireland (she spoke at my company's convention last October and confessed that she was wearing hair extensions!) can boldly share it with the world, then I could just be honest and put it out there! However, I did have one girl who said, "You're the only while girl I've ever known with hair extensions!" And I corrected her and said, "Ha! That's what you think! There are many right here in this church!"

So, needless to say, I've been having fun with my new, longer tresses. I still think they may need a couple more inches taken off to be just right, but for now, the long hair is a blast. Especially for someone like me who could NEVER have long, thick hair.

So....what do you think?

And let me encourage you. If you've ever wanted to try something fun to change up your look, try clip in, human hair extensions. They cost less than a new color or highlights from the salon I can promise you that! And you can wash them, use products on them, blow dry them, color them, perm them, style them...anything you can do with your hair, you can do to your extensions! Let me know if you do!
