Who Says Organic Can't Be Affordable

I've been wanting to try gluten free, dairy free bread and some vegan type products, adding more plant based meals into our diet (after reading the book, Skinny B*tch and seeing the documentary, Forks Over Knives), but at crazy expensive prices, I can't even consider it with my budget.

But it pays to at least check the natural foods section of your local supermarket, mine being Kroger, because you never know what you might find.

I've been toying with the idea of going vegan and doing away with soda and sugar for a month to see if there is any difference to how we feel (because my husband and I both are just feeling so tired and run down with some digestion issues). And of course I'd love to see my child eating a healthy diet like that

With that in mind, I felt like I scored today!

My child is a chicken nugget fiend, so I've been wanting to try some different options for her other than Tyson and Banquet nuggets. I've actually not bought those in a really long time because they just seem gross to me. So, I just dice up boneless skinless chicken breasts and make my own. She loves them and they're cheaper and healthier.

But, I found some Boca vegan chicken nuggets for $0.99! I don't have high hopes that she will like them, but I thought that for $0.99, it was worth a shot.

I also found Rudis gluten and dairy free bread that is normally almost $5.00 a loaf, for $0.99 as well. Had to try it at that price! The whole freezer case was full of bread, as well as frozen waffles and pancakes, all for $0.99. I only bought one box of waffles with blueberries, but there were tons there. If I had had more money with me, I would have bought more!

I totaled it up and all the things I bought would have been nearly 30 bucks! But I paid less than $7!

So, who knows, it may be doable to add some of these types of products into our food budget.

  1. Angie, Udi's and Scharr is the best. You can purchase the gluten free bread crumbs and use these to bread your chicken nuggets. Good Luck..cause it is expensive unless you find great deals like this! I love the bread mix to bake your own loaves of bread.
