I'm Still HERE! and Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies

Hey everyone...long time no see!

I'm still here actually, I've just been a blog slacker! We've done so much this summer, I just haven't been keeping you filled in. I feel bad because I haven't even gotten around to getting G's 2nd birthday pics on here. It was a sweet little party too. I will soon enough, but I think I'll start with our trip to Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg Tennessee. Have you ever been? It's a really great aquarium and she had a blast!

I was a little worried about her getting away from us, as I forgot to pack her stroller. But she did great just walking around. She didn't even want to be held very much, which is good because she's getting soooo heavy! I'm a little worried about her. Her doctor says that a 4 year old should weight about 40 lbs and my 3 year old weighs 52 lbs! She's particularly tall for her age too, but still....52 lbs?! The only thing I can figure that might be packing on the pounds is too much apple juice. Although I've always cut it with water, she still drinks it all day. Her pediatrician said that she shouldn't have ANY drinks with sugar...NONE! Just milk and water flavored with orange or lemon slices.

I'm just not sure what's up? When I was a kid, I had full sugar Kool-Aid all day, as well as soda (RC Cola to be exact) and I WAS NOT particularly active. My mom kept chips, cookies, Little Debbie snack cakes, sugar cereal and ice cream in the house all the time. And of course, we ate it. I stayed indoors almost all the time and I was always skinny. So was my husband. So, I'm not sure why my little one is on the chubby side? I love her regardless, but as a mother, I'm concerned about her health obviously. Most people just say to give her time and she will probably thin out, so I'm hopeful that will be the case. In the meantime, I'm just going to have to watch her diet and activity level a little more closely. We don't eat out very much (a lot LESS than a lot of other families I know) and we don't keep sweets and junk food around the house. For instance, so far today she has had for breakfast, a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios with 2% milk, lunch, Mac-N-Cheese leftover from last night and for a snack, apple slices with low fat cream cheese flavored with a little brown sugar and cinnamon. For dinner we will have some sort of pasta side dish with baked chicken tenders. That's pretty much going to be it for her. So, if you have any suggestions, advice, or encouragement, I'd love to hear it...but keep it nice!

At any rate, here are some pics from the Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies. ENJOY!

  2. Love the pics! Looks like you all had a blast.

My oldest was always in the 5% for height when he was little but something like 75% or more for weight.

He was chunky until he was about 12 or 13 and all his "baby fat" just disappeared.

Now both my boys are thin (you can see that in their pictures). I think some kids chunk up before a growth spurt.

BTW, I tried to get over here by clicking on the comment you left me, but it said your profile was closed so it wouldn't bring me over to your blog (so I had to get here the old fashioned way, lol!)
