Yummy Dirt

Happy in the sun!

These few days of warm weather have felt really good. We couldn't help but take the baby out to play. And play she did! But what is it with babies and dirt? Just another new and interesting thing to experience I guess.

She was so cute. She sat down in this patch of dirt and would rub her hands in it really fast and say "Di, di, di, di, di!" Which is how she says "dig." Her daddy taught her that. It's one of their "things." Oh and she also decided it might be fun to eat some of it too. Yum! : P

I am not one of those mothers that try to keep their children uber clean. I think it's quite silly acutally. Touching, seeing, hearing, and yes, tasting the world around them is just all part of the learning experience and shouldn't be feared. Children learn by doing and learn through play. It thrills my heart to see my child with dirty fingernails and muddy patches on the knees of her jeans. I just picture those synapses in her brain firing away as she pretends to dig, rubs her hands in the green grass, splashes in muddy puddles, and yes, eats dirt! Now, I don't like the fact that she taste tested a little sod, but I'm not freaking out about it. Kids have been doing it since the beginning of time....I remember doing it!

Anyway, it was a great day out in the backyard with my little family, making memories.
