What the Heck is This?

Pretending to water the...er...I'm not sure???

Our new house has a fenced in area that the former owners used as a vegetable garden. This is a total blessing because I've always wanted to have a small garden. All this area needs before I begin planting is some weed pulling, a good tilling and I need to discard some old plants that remain. Which leads me to the title of this post...what the heck is this thing? I will be digging it up and doing away with it, so eventually I will at least see what's under the ground (and who knows, it may just be roots). But until then, can anyone clue me in? The foliage is pretty unique, but I just can't figure it out?

If any of you have any idea what this weird looking tropical plant, in a back yard garden in the middle of central Kentucky is, then please tell me before I dig it up! LOL

Have a great week!

  1. Hey Angie... I tried to look at it closer but I can't tell... is it an onion or a garlic plant? LOL

  2. Ang, at first glance that looks like it could be an aloe vera plant. At first I thought yucca, but it has those really thick cactus-like leaves. But...I always thought that aloe vera plants couldn't grow outside except in desert climate, but what do I know?

Do you have a local extension office? If so, take your picture in to them and they can most certainly identify it.

  3. So good to get back from vacation and see your precious little girl back in blog land! You have been missed.

As for the plant...I don't have a clue. I am TOTALLY clueless when it comes to plants, flowers and such. Good luck.
