Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Night Fever!

Sorry I haven't been around. I haven't felt like reading or writing on my blogs much. This week has been my first real experience with a sick baby and I'm spent! We aren't used to the all- nighters, the wanting to be in mommy and daddy's lap all day, the constant checking of temps and administering of meds, the worry, the lack of appetite and the unending whining. We're just spoiled (and blessed) I guess.

I can honestly say (with a lot of gratitude and thanks to the Lord) that my child has rarely been seriously ill since she's been born. She's had 2 upper respiratory infections that lasted a few weeks, but she never had a fever or anything. She had one 24 hour stomach bug last year and then another stomach bug last month (Both of which I got! Yuck!), and she's only taken antibiotics once. When her pediatrician told me that I should expect between 12 and 13 upper respiratory infections in her first year, I knew that just didn't sound right. It may be, I don't know, but that has NOT been my experience. She's been VERY healthy.

But, since Tuesday, she had a 24 hour bout of diarrhea and vomiting and she's had this fever that has just been relentless. The highest it got was 103 degrees. Those were the times I just held her, all night if I had to, until it went down. And with a little Tylenol and Motrin (and don't forget prayer), her temp did go down and I never had to take her to the doctor. Although, I still may. Just to get a check of her ears. I always worry about her ears.

You see, the auditory nerve in her right ear never developed, so she's completely deaf in that ear. She hears great in her left ear. As a matter of fact, I say she has "super-sonic" hearing because she jumps at every little creak or crack in the house. She hears EVERYTHING! But, as a precaution, I like to keep a check on ear infections, etc. to protect her hearing ear.

Anyway, I think her temperature is pretty much back to normal. But now, her sleep pattern is messed up and she's up every couple of hours wanting to play of all things! Sheesh!

Well, that's the good and the bad. Uncommonly healthy baby, spoiled, grateful parents. Unusually sick baby, whiny, exhausted parents.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Off to bed...hopefully for more than a few hours! LOL

  3. Hey Angie!

I'm glad to hear that she is feeling better now! I went through the same thing with my first baby but the second one really never got sick! It sounds like it was just one of those virus things that goes around. I would probably just call your ped doc to see if they think you should bring her in.

Hope you all get a good nights sleep tonight!

    Hugs,
    Angela

  4. Hope the little one is recovering O.K. It's so hard to be strong when your little one is sick and you are sleep deprived. Hang in there. I bet she'll be better soon.

  6. Oh you poor thingS!!! It's hard to do anything when you're sleep deprived. Keep her hydrated (as I'm sure everyone has told you) even if she doesn't want to - popsicles are great for that. I wish I could come over and help you out. You'll survive but I know it won't feel like it sometimes. Stay strong and we're all here if you need to vent! ;) ♥♥
